IS IT THE LAW FOR A DEALERSHIP TO BE SURE THE CAR THEY ARE SELLING HAS SEATBELTS?

I bought a car recently from a buy here pay here place as my credit is awful. I bought a 2004 durango at the sale price of 16,000. When i got the car home I found there was only 1 seatbelt in the back that worked properly and I have 3 children. The one seat wouldnt fold up and didnt have a belt, the other seat was just plain broken. I took the car back to the place saying this was a safety issue. They supposedly fixed the car. When I had my son in the car seat, the seat collapsed with him in it. The second seat belt the place never fixed they said spray WD40 in it when you get home because otherwise we have to remove the whole seat and that is too much trouble. What can I do? I called the car place telling them the seat I said was a safety issue collapsed with my baby in it. They said bring it in NOW they will fix it. Did they brake the law? Who can help me?

It all depends on where you are from but many states require that the dealer check for all seat belts in the vehicle “AND” that they are in working condition before the sale…

Some state courts found that a vehicle owner may bear tort liability for death or injury arising from the absence of the safety belt, and based on that opinion, it could be argued for defective safety belts as well….

Any dealer that sells a motor vehicle without seat belts or seat belts that are defective, could be liable for subsequent injuries of any person injured as a result of that defect or the absence of seat belts…
