Your baby may love the comfort and security of her crib but there comes a time when you have to start thinking about making the transition into big kid furniture for sleeping. For a toddler that is just making the adjustment, a twin sized sleeper may be too big and scary. You might be better off to find a piece of furniture that is designed for this young age and is closer to the floor so that you don’t have to worry about her falling out in the middle of the night!

To provide your little girls with a place to sleep that offers all the cozy comfort of her crib and the bigger space she needs to accommodate her growing body, consider getting one that has a covering. Of all the sleep furniture that is designed especially for youth in transition, these are the ones that are the most popular. Most of these smaller versions not only offer “big girl style” but they also have safety features like side rails that make it a safer place for her.

If you are concerned about the price of having to buy another piece of furniture too soon, then you should consider one of the less expensive models that are made of plastic. They are sturdy enough to support her until she is old enough to move on to bigger furniture that should last until she is grown. Many of the plastic ones are theme designs that feature some of the characters that girls love the most. From princesses to little girl explorers, there is something that will make every little girl feel special.

You will find some of the more traditional styles in wood that is both classic and durable. The covers are usually made of fabric that matches the bedspread with lots of ruffles and bows to let you know that it is a piece of furniture designed with the princess in mind! Some of these also have the ability to convert into a bench when they are no longer needed as a place to sleep.

There are those that are made with fairies, princesses, and a variety of favorites that your child will enjoy having close by as she sleeps. One advantage to these is that they usually require a crib mattress which you most likely already have. This can often be the most expensive part of the furniture so you can keep cost at a minimum if you prefer.

Even though they don’t offer more space than the crib, these sleeping areas provide toddlers with a sense of security and give them an opportunity to move gradually into real furniture while remaining in an environment that is safe. If you can’t find the one you are looking for at the local furniture store, kid’s store, or variety store, then you may have to do your shopping online. Try to find one that offers free shipping but is still offered at a comparable price to those at other sites. This will help you get the best value!

When should you move your child from a crib to a toddler bed? There really is no right time. It will all depend on your child.

Most parents switch their baby from a crib to a toddler bed between the ages of 1 ½ and 3 years. It is best to keep them in their crib as long as he or she fits comfortably in it.

One of the reasons you may rush to buy a toddler bed is because you worry your baby will start climbing in and out of their crib, risking injury. Before you do this, please be sure that your toddler is ready to make the transition. A toddler bed provides some freedom for your child, as he/she will no longer need help getting in and out of bed. It may not be safe for your toddler to be walking around the house when everyone is still sleeping, so please be sure they are ready for this freedom, or perhaps put up a safety gate limiting access to other rooms.

If you need to move your toddler from a crib to a toddler bed because a new baby is coming, try to move your toddler six to eight weeks prior to the new baby coming home. You do not want your child to feel their crib, or room, is being taken away by the new baby. But if your toddler is not ready to make the move, don’t rush them. Leave them in the crib. Your newborn can sleep in a cradle, or bassinet, until your toddler is ready to make the move.

To make the transition easier for your toddler you should try to keep the toddler bed in the same room as the crib and make the change fun. You can have a big boy/big girl moving-from-crib

-to-toddler-bed party. If there is an older sibling you can say “WOW, you are moving into Bobby’s big bed.”

You may want to have your toddler help you choose the bedding that you will be using as this will make them feel safe and not afraid to make the move.

Finally, if your toddler is walking around at night, crying, or cannot fall asleep, he or she may not be ready to move to a toddler bed. So please wait a few weeks and try again.
