Why can’t I put my baby’s carseat in the middle of the rear seats of my 98 Chevy Blazer?

Ok. Our center seat’s seatbelt says explicitly “Don’t put a baby car seat here!”, as well as it being listed in the owner’s manual. But it doesn’t say why.
