We are taking a trip to Florida, what can we do to make sure our 2 yr. old stays happy?

We are leaving Ohio on Friday at about 5:00pm and are going to Tampa, FL. We have a 2 year old and are worried that he won’t sleep very good and will get very upset about being in a car seat for 12 hours. We have a portable DVD player which will be a huge help, but we are looking for other ways to keep him happy.

Make frequent stops where he can run around. Take along a couple of familiar toys. Bring snacks he can feed himself. You are driving overnight and if you are lucky he will sleep. Bring pj’s and change him into them near his regular bedtime so he gets the message. Stopping every once in a while will make the trip a little longer but it will make it less likely that you have a crying and complaining kid on your hands. If he is asleep when you arrive try not to disturb him since he’s likely to be really cranky if you do and might be cranky the rest of the day.
