car seat age law

car seat age law
until what age do kids have to sit in a car seat?

I have 2 kids ages 5 & 7 they both sit on a booster seat. I was wondering what is the law as far as when they can sit without the booster. We live in NY

New York State law requires all children under the age of four to ride in safety seats. The law requires that all children age four, five or six ride in child restraint systems. Safety seats and child restraint systems must be certified according to Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standard 213. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the seat or system, and make sure you install and use the seat or system correctly.

Note: The effective date of the requirement to use a child restraint system for a child age four, five, or six is March 27, 2005.

Basically according to this, if your child is between the ages of 4 through 6 then they must ride in a car seat. Since your child is age 7 then they can ride in a seat belt in the back seat.

Texas to crack down on new child seat law starting June 1
AUSTIN, TX – For nearly a year now all passengers riding in a vehicle have been required by Texas Law to wear a seat belt. Now the Click It or Ticket campaign encompasses both drivers and passengers regardless of age.
