car seat accidents

Car-Seats and accidents?
Earlier this evening I was in an accident. I was on my way back from picking up dinner, and a lady’s car slid on ice and hit me, nothing too serious- airbag did go off but all are fine. My children were at home with my dad, thank god. But I have two high-back boosters and a car-seat in my backseat. Do they need to be replaced or will they be fine?? I have never been in an accident or anything, but I always read don’t use a car-seat that has been in an accident…
Thanks, she did hit me from behind
I have always been told you can’t always see the damage, but I don’t know
Thank you Ashley!!
this was in the october issue of “Baby Talk” magazine on page 18:
“Fact or Fable?
A car seat in a crash should be thrown out.
Fable. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, minor crashes are unlikely to affect child-safety-seat performance. So, how do you know if the crash was minor? Follow these guidelines: The vehicle was driven away from the crash site; the door closest to the safety seat was undamaged; none of the passengers were injured; the air bags (if present) did not deploy; and there is no visible damage to the safety seat.”
i hope this helps. i know you’re probably thinking the same thing i am; “well, everything was ok except for the air bags.” i wish i could help more, maybe take them to the fire station, explain what happened and have someone inspect them. other than that, i’d probably get new ones. i know they’re not the cheapest thing, but you don’t want to risk your child’s safety. good luck!
