car seat positioner

Questions about sleep positioners and newborn loungers?
My husband and I just had our first child and we’re slowly realizing getting him to sleep on his own isn’t as easy as we thought. We bought a travel playpen bassinet thing for him to sleep in our room in and he won’t sleep in it for long. I’m overally paranoid about SIDS so we bought a sleep positioner for him, but I was wondering if they really do any good or not? He seems to sleep the best when he’s in his car seat, but is that safe to let him do? And I’ve noticed he likes to be reclined when he sleeps at night or have something under his head slightly, is there any safe way to do this for him in his crib? Are newborn loungers okay for them to sleep on? Any advice on these things with newborns would be helpful thanks.
Car seats are a no-no for long periods of sleep. Their little heads can flop in a way that semi-closes their airways making it harder to breathe. A baby just died in my city from being left to sleep in a carseat with his chin against his chest. Don’t use pillows. You can get a wedge that goes under the head of the crib so that the head is at somewhat of an incline. You should really only put him to sleep in his bassinet or crib – only a hard flat surface – lying flat on his back. That’s if you want him to sleep alone. My little one co-sleeps with me most of the time but is otherwise in a bassinet right next to the bed. If you’re worried about SIDS (how can anyone not be) the Angelcare monitor did a world of good for putting my mind at ease. It detects not only sound, but movement and temperature as well. There’s an alarm that souns after 20 seconds of no movement being detected. It can catch even the shallowest breathing.
