baby car seat checks

Should we take the train, plane, or car when driving with baby from CT to DC?
I have a business trip to DC coming up and would love for my husband and 6 month old to join me. I’m not sure what would be easier and safer, traveling via train, plane, or car. If we drive, we will have plenty of room for a pack & play and won’t need to worry about juggling a car seat. I’m concerned, however, that driving may not be the safest for our baby. Amtrak will get us there faster than driving, but is there room to lug a car seat, stroller, and pack & play along? Finally, I hate flying, but would it be fastest? (Taking into account security lines vs just hopping on the train.) Again, can you check a car seat, stroller, and pack & play? Will flying be uncomfortable for our baby? It hurts my ears and she has a stuffy nose a lot of the time. I’m worried she will be in pain. Any suggestions from parents that have traveled with babies?
The plane is fastest of the three options, but you would have trouble bringing all the equipment with you. If you fly, leave the “pack & play” at home. Bring along the car seat and the stroller. They can be checked with the luggage. Any hotel you select will provide a pack & play for your use.
If you take Amtrak, you’ll have a longer trip but it will be comfortable and the scenery is a plus. You can check the carseat and the stroller. Again, just get a pack & play at the hotel.
If you drive, it will be the longest trip. Are you sure you want to use up two days of your vacation driving down and back? And it can wear you flat out, especially driving all that distance with a little one.
Experience has taught me that Amtrak is my preferred mode of travel. It might be a bit more expensive, but it is worth it in the long run. If the baby pitches a fit, you can get up and move around from car to car, go to the lounge car or even have a good meal in the dining car. That is not an option on an airplane. There’s nothing more frustrating for parents than dealing with a baby with painful ears and irritated passengers on an airplane. There is no place to go.
Make it easy on yourself. Leave the pack & play at home and take the train. Check the website at Amtrak.com and see what you think. Good luck!
