What is the average seated shoulder height for a newborn?

I was looking at convertible car seats, and was wondering what the average seated shoulder height is at birth? It looks like the length on many of the seats would work height-wise, but what if the kid has a short torso? Then would I be stuck buying an infant seat after all?

A seat with the lowest strap slots at 8 inches or less should fit the majority of newborns. Some convertible seats fit newborns great, others not so much. If you want to use a convertible from the start and skip the infant seat, I’d just get one that has low slots and you should be fine.
