I need tips for shopping WITH a baby?

My baby is 6 mos. old and she hates being tied up in the car seat or stroller. Since she was in my womb all the ever did was kick like crazy, and now that is all she does too. She wants to be moving all the time. If I need to go to the store, it’s very stressful because she wants to get out. And everyone is always starring at her and stopping me to look at her and I can’t tell if they think I’m a bad parent because she’s crying or if they just want to look at her. Any tips to make this easier, bottles help, but toys just piss her off while shopping.
She doesn’t like carriers or slings either and people always make comments about the moby wrap!!!! “Is she comfortable in that?!”

If she sits up already, I suggest putting her in the shopping cart without having her in the carseat. My daughter hated her carseat, and once she was able to observe the world at everyone else’s level, all of a sudden, shopping trips are a breeze. Like your daughter, my little girl has always hated being in a sling. So, I make sure I take her out when she has had a good nap, was just changed, and has eaten. That way, she’s less likely to get fussy. Finally, I keep toys handy just in case, although my girl prefers to observe most of the time. I also find that talking to her while I shop helps. I’ll explain what I’m buying, or I’ll tell her what things are on the shelves and their colors, etc. I think it helps her feel involved somehow.

As far as people who want to stop and look at your baby, lots of people are drawn to babies and likely are not judging you. I used to wonder the same thing. At this point, since I know my daughter’s limits so well, if someone wants to admire her when I know she’s ready to lose it, I just explain that I appreciate the person’s admiration, but I need to get the baby home. Otherwise, I just limit the amount of time someone oos and awes. She is not a fan of people getting in her face!
