A question for grandma’s and great grandma’s please?
Do you ever ask yourselves, how you and your children made it out alive? When we were young mothers, we washed out own diapers, after rinsing them in the toilet that is. Now they have throw aways. We sterilized our baby’s bottles, nipples and caps. Now they have throw away liners. I saw a yellow rubber duck the other day that you put in the baby’s bath water and it tells you if the temperature is right. We used our elbow.
They have to use car seats, that cost a fortune while out kids stood up in the front seat. Not even seat belts then. Gee, isn’t it a wonder we are all alive?
Whenever I see those emails floating around about lead paint on the walls and riding bicycles without helmets, I laugh. Some of the new so called “technology” borders on the ridiculous. Sure, we want to protect our kids, but now it’s more like platic bubble suffocation. I’m still find the occasional cinder in my knee from when I was a kid. My daughter had her first stitches at 2…and none after that as she learned young. Car seat? Never saw one. I strapped her in a seat on the back of my bike, without a helmet. She’s still here, and now has two boys of her own. She is of the ‘car seat…disposable everything…digital thermometer age’. Mothers now have the technology we didn’t have…we had to rely on pure instinct! We survived, and quite well.
