car seat recall lists

Is there a set number of years that it is safe to use a crib mattress?
I still have the crib mattress from my first child, and would like to reuse it for our 2nd child. It was manufactured in August of 2003 and is still quite firm. I’ve looked for it on recall lists, and found nothing. I know that you are not supposed to reuse a car seat after a set number of years and I was wondering if this applies to crib mattresses.
Note: I’m not against buying a new mattress, as we are getting a new crib. No sense in replacing something that will work a second time around.
I’ve read that you should only use a crib mattress for 1 child because it can get soft and squishy and may lead to suffocation on the second child
