child car seat positions

child car seat positions
To parents who moved their kids’ car seats to forward-facing before or around child’s 1st b-day?

I’ve always wondered, why so many parents get very defensive about extended rear-facing. It seems like so many are in so much hurry to move their kids to forward-facing position. Extended rear-facing is safer and can save a life, so it baffles me, why every parent wouldn’t want that for their child. I’m not being judgmental, I will not give TD, I’m just trying to understand. Is there something I’m missing here?
Please tell me, why you moved your child on or before their 1st birthday, and whether you knew of extended rear-facing at the time. If you didn’t know about it, would you have waited now?
Thanks!
TU to all, whether I agree with you or not. Thanks for answering, guys.

I’m a nanny and the little girls parents turned her at 11 months bc she’s really big for her age. She just turned 3 and last I heard she was 42 pounds 43 inches, and that was a while ago, she wears size 6x! Anyways… I waited until she was a year to turn her seat in my car just because that’s the law. I was excited and turned her then because her parents had done it and because I had a tiny 2 door car at the time and it was really hard to get her in and out especially if she fell asleep in the seat and I had to pick her up and carry her in the house. Now I know all about extended rear facing and will definitely do it with my own children.

I think people do it for convenience and because they don’t know any better. My friend said her pediatrician at her son’s 1yr well visit told her to! Unbelievable, especially since the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends you rear face till age 2.
