When did you put your baby in the carseat facing forward?

My daughter is about to turn 8 months old this week and she weighs 21 pounds and I was looking forward to buying the car seat that faces forward and she’s about to outgrow the infant car seat. I went to KMart and they have the ones that said fits baby from 20-40 pounds, but my mind is saying to wait til she’s a year old because her neck isn’t strong enough yet. Tell me what you think.

I bought a new carseat lately that had a lot of information. One of the things it said was that the baby has to be 20lbs AND a year old. Ie, a 21lb 8 month old baby should not face forward, according to the safety regulations for US anyway. So I would wait until she’s 12 months old. (Including a link to the laws, scroll down a bit since it’s at the bottom of the page not the top. Where I live, they have to be 1 year and 20lbs+, but it’s not law in every state.)

Now, the longer they can stay facing backwards, the safer it is. My daughter is 15 months old, and 18 lbs (small girl, I know. ) We bought her a carseat that will convert with her (Britax) and it allows her to be rear facing until 33lbs. So she’ll be facing backwards until she’s above 33lbs… which will probably be when she’s 2 or more. It’s just safer.
