What is the legal age limit in the uk that you can leave your child home alone.?

This is sorta a double sided question I have an eleven year old who wants to stay home or with his friends most of the time when I go shopping or away to visit a relative but I don’t think he is old enough, maybe for an half hour or so when I just go down to the shops at home but not longer, but also I was wondered what age are your children allowed to sit in the front seat of your car I have an air bag my children always argue who is seating in front and I have said that they both should sit in back as they are too young for front one 8yrs and one11yrs. Children they can be so infuriating some times.

I think its up to you to decide if they are capapble of behaving at home alone, each child is different, I do think 11 is a little young, having said that my mother used to leave me alone when I was 9 with my 7 year old sister, we never got into any trouble, but there is always that what if? I think my mother was totally wrong
