8 month old too large for Chico KeyFit 30 Carseat…What to do?

My son will be 8 months old in two weeks. He is 28 inches and 22 lbs. What do I do if he reaches 30 inches before he is a year old and can go into a toddler seat? Is there a car seat bigger than the Chico KeyFit 30? Do I put him in a toddler seat? Thanks everyone!

You can move him to a convertible seat whenever you want, just keep him rear facing. Convertibles can go both rear facing (usually to 35-45 lbs) and forward facing (usually to 40-80 lbs). Rear facing is five times safer and it is recommended to keep kids rear facing to the limits of the seat. You can keep him in the KeyFit until he maxes it out, or you can move him to a convertible now. Most convertibles will fit even a newborn well and babies can go straight into them from birth.

Also, 30 inches is a general guideline to let you know at about what height the seat will be outgrown. The seat is truly outgrown when the top of the head comes within one inch of the top of the hard shell. This can come before or after 30″. Torso height is what is important when it comes to car seats. So keep an eye on the top of his head. If he has a tall torso, the seat could be outgrown already. If he has a short torso, you may have more time left in it than you thought.
