child car seat placement

child car seat placement
11 month olds carseat placement?

A couple things; my sons grandma ( my mother in law) took him for the day and her carseat was front facing. I thought it was too early for that but didnt bother arguing with her, she said hes almost a year so its fine. Im wondering is this ok? when did you put your child into rear facving mode?

also is my son too young to be put on the side seat of my car, the middle seems to make him more cramped. what do you think, im a first time mom so im not really sure about any of this. thanks!
hes 23 lbs right now

He needs to be rear facing until at least 1 year AND 20 lbs. BY LAW. However, the AAP recommends keeping children rear facing until at least age 2. My 28 lbs. 17 month old is still rear facing in her Britax Marathon CS. Her legs are bent, but that’s OK and it’s not unsafe at all. She’s happy and not the least bit uncomfortable :) The side is fine. My daughter has been on the passenger side since birth.

ETA:
Thumbs down all you want, but rear facing is so much safer for everyone, but especially for babies and toddlers. Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8gU9zzCGA8

NANCY – That is so ignorant! Accidents happen ALL the time, and it’s always best to be prepared. What if you were in an accident and your child wasn’t buckled in properly, the car seat wasn’t installed properly, or you weren’t using the right seat for your child and your child died!? How are you supposed to live with yourself knowing that they would probably still be alive had you taken the proper precautions? And driving safely isn’t everything! What about the OTHER DRIVER? You cannot control how they drive!

A 3 year old was just killed in a car accident right down the street from my house. He was buckled with the vehilcle seat belt but he was NOT in any kind of car seat. This was not a bad accident at all. He would most likely still be alone had he of been in a 5 point harness car seat!!
