infant car seat positioning

With the combi car seats, what weight can they usually stay rear-facing til?
My son’s legs are starting to look cramped in the infant car seat, he’s over 20lbs, but I obviously need him to be rear-facing for as long as possible. Do the combi carseats have more leg room when rear-facing? And any recommendations on which ones let bigger babies stay in the rear-facing position for longer?
Thanks!
Oh, by the way, I’m in the UK, and he’s almost 5 months (on Sunday, where’s the time gone?!)
Sorry guys, apparently there’s a thumbs down fairy about, saaaad!
Sonic I definitely don’t want him to go forward facing yet, I’d have him rear-facing til he was 13 if I could, haha!
There’s no padding that can come out. I’ve had another look and all the combi seats do up to around 29lbs in the rear facing position, so hopefully he’ll be at least 9 months before he’s that age.
*before he’s that weight
I have a Britax SI First Class Ultra which can go both rear and forward facing. It says it can be rear facing until 13kgs but I actually found that once my son got to about 12kgs it started tipping a bit when I went round a sharp bend, so I had to turn it around.
