baby car seats convertible britax
Car seat safety? Advice…?
I’m trying to pick out a convertible car seat to add to my baby registry but there is definitely plenty of research to be done. So far it seems that a Britax is the way to go but I was wondering what everyone uses for their child & how they decided. Are there any particular car seat safety websites that I should be looking at?
I have two convertible seats for two kids *lol*. I have the alpha omega (aka costco aka Eddie Bauer) and the Evenflo Triumph Advance
I was reasonably happy with the Alpha Omega until I got the Evenflo, I almost bought a second one so I could throw out the Eddie Bauer but I just can’t justify it. The main differences:
*In the alpha omega the shoulder straps run in a loop under the baby and when the baby is in the seat if there is too much strap on one shoulder and too little on the other its practically impossible to fix it without taking the baby out. I don’t know how the straps are configured in the Triumph Advance but I’ve never even had too much strap on one side and not enough on the other
*When the alpha omega is rearfacing the strap tighteness adjuster is shoved into the vehicle seat, its just impossible. Even forward facing its hard to adjust. The Evenflo is adjusted with a dial on either side (there’s on one both sides but you only need to adjust one) you loosen and tighten it each time so you always get the right fit (its pretty hard to get baby out without loosening the strap. Tip: If you don’t undo the buckles first sometimes there is too much tension to trip the release lock to allow the straps to be loosened. I used to struggle with it until I figured that one out. Undo the buckle and then loosen and it rarely sticks.
*Chest clip on the alpha omega sometimes “clicks” but its not actually done up, even hubby never manages to miss when doing up the evenflo
*Evenflo has “infinite” adjustable harness heights
*Evenflo has higher slot height safer rear-facing and a taller shell so it can fit taller babies before needing to be turned AND it takes up less room when rear-facing between the backseat of the car and the back of the restraint (so you don’t end up with your knees shoved into the dash). The eveflo is wider than the alpha omega. If you need a narrow seat the Sunshine Radian is a better option.
