car seat tether anchor

A question about installing car seats… I’ve always wondered this……?
I’m just curious as to why you are not supposed to use both the tether/anchor AND the seat belt together. I don’t. This is just something I’ve always wondered. On most user manuals, it states in bold letters not to do this. Wouldn’t that just make it twice as safe though?
David… I thought baby was supposed to go in the middle if at all possible b/c it’s the safest place? (Not the situation for me but it was when I only had one child.)
You would think it would make it safer (double duty), but the reason they tell you not to is because the car seat has only been safety tested with one or the other, NOT both. So using both is considered “unsafe” because they haven’t been tested together. Personally, i always follow the manuals directions and would never use them both together. The seat belt has been tested and so has LATCH and both are very safe to use. So using both together isn’t needed.
