Is it time to switch car seats?
My son is 9 1/2 months old and about 20-21 lbs. I don’t know how long he is exactly, but his feet come all the way to the end of his infant seat. The weight limit is 22 lbs. How long can I wait to switch? What is the best thing to switch him to? Does he have to stay rear-facing? I found a couple of seats at wal-mart, but they are forward-facing and go from 22-100lbs. (It converts to a booster) They seem to sit up straighter than his does, and I don’t know where his head would go if he fell asleep because it’s less cushioned. What did you switch to and when? How dangerous is it to let it go over 22lbs? I would really appreciate a link to what would be a good seat if possible.

You should keep your child rear-facing in a convertible car seat for as long as possible.

“If an infant car seat is used, the infant should be switched to a rear-facing convertible car seat once the maximum height (when the infant’s head is within 1 inch of the top of the seat) and weight (usually 22 pounds to 32 pounds) have been reached for that infant seat as suggested by the car seat manufacturer.
Toddlers should remain rear-facing in a convertible car seat until they have reached the maximum height and weight recommended for the model, or at least the age of 2.”
