Is there a technical term for the height of a car seat from the road surface?
Some cars are really low to the ground, while others can be high like sitting in the cab of a van for instance .. is there an actual term for the seating height?
In vehicle packaging the relevant issue isn’t the actual height of the seat, but the height of the occupant’s hip-joint. The location of the hip-joint of a standard reference occupant model is referred to as the “H-point”.
The reference point from which the H-point is measured may not be the ground level. Each car is designed and packaged around a fixed reference point, the location of which varies from one manufacturer to another. If different versions of the car have different ride heights, it is the wheel and the ground that are moved on the vehicle package, not the car body. Modern cars are developed using a 3D package.
However, it should be possible to find out the height of the H-point from the ground from a vehicle package.
