child car seat laws

New car seat law?My son is 2 and ex has just bought a booster seat for ages 3-12 yrs weight 15kg-36kgs.?
My ex has bought a booster seat for me to keep in the house for when friends/relatives want to take me and our son out.I don’t drive. The age says3-12 yrs weight 15kg -36kg.Although our son is not yet 2 he is bigger than average and weighs about the 15kg mark already. Is this booster seat suitable for him to use and is it within the new laws for child car safety as of september? My ex says it is and that I’m being a b***h by questioning it but I just want to know my son will be safe and legal.
It says its in group three which according to a document I just read on the net is age 6+.Please can someone give me the appropriate advice as I don’t want my son to be travelling unsafely.
You have every right to check. We had exactly the same problem.
When my daughter turned 2, she was 16Kg clothed for going out. She was not obese, but not thin and very tall – 3ft.
We went to various shops for advice, they all insisted that she needs a proper car seat, but none of them would fit her. Neither would most of the booster seats with backs on.
In the end we chose the Graco junior booser seat.
I did ring Graco first, the advice was that even though she is too small for the booster, she is too heavy for the straps in a car seat. The booster was the lesser of 2 evils, true she may hurt herself in a crash, but at least she would not break the straps and potentially fly through the windscreen.
My advice is, try him in the seats at major retailers, and ring the manufacturers help lines, Graco, Britax etc – get numbers from their websites.
You cannot be too careful with your childrens safety.
