Road trip how to prepare kids??and keep them occupied?

I am 26 yrs old and my hubby is 40 have been married 5.5 yrs getting a divorce.I have two kids girl and boy who are twins age 6 from a prior relationship. I made a mistake i signed a pre-nup the day before i got married without understanding or even reading it.The pre-nup states that i can keep any gifts ie given in the marriage but that the lump sum of 435 grand-500 grand i have to wait 6 months to get that money though.So i put most of my stuff and kids stuff in storage.I cant afford plane tickets so we will be driving from california to my home state NJ.My car is not an suv and only has 3 seats in the back 2 seats in front.I plan on taking 7 outfits for each of us but am unsure how many toys they should take in the car with them?We will also be taking my sons lizard and my small dog in the car with us?
Afaid this is going to turn into a nightmare!?

Stop every couple of hours. You’ll need the potty breaks of course, but make them exercise breaks too. Walk the dog. Play tag, just move around to release some of the pent-up energy.

Also stop for meals if possible, instead of eating in the car, even if you bring your own food. Most kids love picnics.

If you can manage it, I recommend on Day off’ from driving.
Visit a zoo or a children’s museum somewhere near the middle of the trip.

If you can stand it, bring along their favorite music and have sing-a-longs, And have them take turns deciding on what to do. *Jimmy, should we sing or watch a movie now?” “Jenny,

Talk about the trip in positive manner to your kids. Make them feel that it’s a great adventure and a special treat to be driving all that way with Mom.
