Is it legal for 6passengers to ride in a 5 passenger auto if all are belted in( 2in one belt) ?
We are 3 adults and 3 children planning a trip. Since gas is so high and only one auto can 2 childern be buckled in the same seat belt. They are small but over the weight and height limit for a car seat.
NO this is illegal plus this is a dangerous practice and is not recommended.
Safety belts are designed for one person only.

If your child has outgrown their rear facing car seat and you cannot find another suitable car seat for them which is rear facing, then you should purchase a forward facing car seat.
Always remember not to install rear facing car seats in the front passenger seat when the passenger airbag is live. To have your child riding in their rear facing car seat in the front of the car when the airbag there is active, is against the law. Install the rear facing car seat in the rear of the car as it is the safest place for your little one. You can position the rear facing car seat in the passenger seat at the front if the airbag has been turned off. However, we do not recommend this, as the rear of the car is the best and safest place for your child.
