Is 3 years old a good age to switch over to the Graco Nautilus?
My daughter is almost 3 and I am looking for a bigger car seat for her, right now she is in the Graco Myride and I love that car seat. I was just asking if 3 is a good age to switch over to the Nautilus. Thanks!
Well, you just bought the My Ride, seeing as it’s been out for less than a year. They both have the same harnessed weight limit, so there’s really no point in getting a Nautilus. 3 in 1 boosters fail more often in crash tests than other seats on the market, so they’re not as safe, either. If you’re looking for a bigger car seat, then I’d suggest something with a higher harnessed weight limit. Something that harnesses to 80 or 85 lbs. Not a booster. The Britax Frontier 85 does, or the Sunshine Kids Radian 80, or a Recaro Sigmo harnesses to 70. But there’s no real advantage to switching her over to the Nautilus, as it’s not any bigger than the My Ride because they both harness to 65, so they’re the same size. She’s still not big enough for a booster at age 3. Most states have laws stating she needs to be at least 4 years of age AND 40 lbs, not to mention those are minimums, not what’s actually safest.
EDIT: I just reread your question. She’s DEFINITELY not ready for the booster part of the Nautilus–she’s only TWO. If she’s in the My Ride, she doesn’t need a bigger car seat. It holds her until she’s 65 lbs or 50 inches, whichever is first.
